Gratz Industries is a historic American manufacturer of architectural metal, furniture, sculpture, and objects. The company has been operating since 1929 originally named Treitel – Gratz in NYC developing projects for the iconic industrial designers Raymond Loewy and Donald Deskey and serving the design community for the past 90 years. During the 1940s -1960s, Gratz established working relationships with Mies van der Rohe and le Corbusier originally manufacturing their furniture for Knoll in the USA. Gratz worked with sculptors Isamu Noguchi, Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt, Maya Lin, and many notable Mid Century designers as well as creating site-specific installations for Massimo and Leila Vignelli, Philip Johnson, IM Pei, and many other important architects. The company moved to Philadelphia in 2013 and still produces furniture from the Laverne Furniture Collection designed by William Katavolos, Ross Littell, and Douglas Kelley and these pieces are in the Modern Design collection at MOMA, the Louvre and were recently included in the Vitra House compendium and display of great furniture from the past century.
